  • Tanya Surette, R.Psych

    For 18 years, Tanya has been a psychologist and counsellor, working with clients and groups of all ages while holding roles in youth care, schools, post-secondary, and private practice settings. She balances her time between being an Associate Professor at Acadia University in the Counselling Program and working part-time with clients in private practice. Tanya brings an interdisciplinary background in psychology, counselling, and education to her work. She has over a decade of experience providing psychological and psychoeducational assessments to children and adults. She has additional training and qualifications nationally as a certified supervisor and provides candidate registrants and counsellors at various stages in their careers with clinical supervision.

  • Kelly Brenton, RCT

    she/her/hers

    Kelly has provided counselling and psychoeducational assessment services to clients and groups for 25 years. While working part-time in private practice, she also works at Acadia University as an Assistant Professor in the M.Ed. Counselling Program. Kelly is committed to empowering clients to see their strengths and use these to move towards desired change and healing. Working through an integrative approach, Kelly journeys alongside the client, incorporating various theoretical approaches through a strengths-based, neuro-affirming, and trauma-informed framework. This focuses on client self-determination and autonomy. She also provides candidate registrants and graduate counselling students with clinical supervision.

  • Belinda Robinson, RCT

    she/her/hers

    Belinda Robinson brings a variety of professional, volunteer, and life experiences to her practice. Her career path has included entrepreneurial ventures and work in adult education, health care, nonprofits, and the Arts. She gravitated to roles which supported her belief in the power of the human spirit and the importance of community, fostering relationships, and accepting and respecting the richness of perspectives in pursuit of a common purpose. Counselling was a natural calling she came to later in her professional life.

    Belinda holds a master’s degree in counselling from Acadia University. She is a Registered Counselling Therapist with the NS College of Counselling Therapists and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

  • Dorothy Hunse, RCT-C

    Dorothy is a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association. With a Master’s degree in Counselling from Acadia University, Dorothy tailors her approach to the uniqueness of each client. She welcomes clients into a safe and compassionate space where they can be seen, heard, understood, and valued believing that these are the conditions that support change. Dorothy operates from a strength-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and collaborative perspective, to support clients as they gain insight into themselves and their situations, grow in self-compassion, and are empowered to draw on their innate wisdom and resources to bring about the desired change. Dorothy offers counselling on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, identity/esteem, relationship issues, transition/loss/grief, end-of-life, and spiritual/existential concerns.

  • Erica McGill, RCT

    Erica is a Registered Counselling Therapist with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She has twenty years of experience in both private practice and post-secondary school settings.

    Erica’s work is grounded in respect, collaboration, and the belief that clients hold the power for change, healing, and learning. She is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a model of therapy that is based on attachment, improving emotional connections, and repairing any harm or disruptions in relationships. Her work will be primarily with couples who are seeking to find new ways of strengthening their relationship.

    Erica is deeply affirming of 2SLGBTQIA+ identities and strives to create a safe, trauma-informed, and caring space for all.

  • Inna Viriasova, RCT-C

    she/her/hers

    Inna’s therapeutic approach is grounded in the values of kindness and compassion, and is primarily attachment-based, relational, depth-oriented, and trauma-informed. She supports adults, teens, and couples with anxiety, depression, effects of trauma, relationship issues, and significant life changes, and also enjoys working with professors and students, immigrants, neurodiverse, and 2SLGBTQ+ clients. Inna has a multicultural background and offers counselling in English and Ukrainian. In addition to her part-time work in private practice, Inna teaches in the Counselling Program at Acadia University.

     Inna is a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) with the NS College of Counselling Therapists and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

  • Janis Dawson, RCT-C

    she/her/hers

    Janis is a Canadian Certified Counsellor Supervisor with the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association and a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. Janis is also a core faculty member at Acadia University’s School of Counselling.

    Janis holds a Master of Education (Counselling Psychology) from Memorial University of Newfoundland & Labrador as well as a Doctor of Education from Western University. For 15 years, Janis has been providing counselling and supervision services in a variety of settings, including post-secondary, non-profit and community settings, and private practice.

    Janis works from an integrated approach that is trauma-informed, strengths-based and draws from solution-focused, single-session, and narrative therapies.

  • Mark Baigent, RCT-C

    Mark Baigent is a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists, a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and holds a Master of Counselling degree from Gonzaga University. Mark is pursuing certification in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT/EFCT), which helps clients create, maintain, or repair strong attachment bonds while working to deepen and improve communication. In addition to his counselling practice, Mark teaches part-time in the M.Ed. Counselling Program at Acadia University, teaching Couples & Family Counselling.

  • Gina Spidle, RCT

    Gina is a Registered Counselling Therapist with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

    Gina received her M.Ed in Counselling from Acadia University and works at the Acadia Counselling Centre. In her counselling practice, Gina focuses on empowering her clients through a strengths-based, integrative approach, drawing on knowledge from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Polyvagal Theory.

  • Erica de Sousa, RCT-C

    Erica’s practice draws on her background in community development, particularly exploring how people connect and care within diverse lived experiences. This broad perspective grounds her belief in the importance of nourishing relationships and the power of being seen. Her approach is respectful and curious, helping people meaningfully reconnect with themselves and others. She values people’s ability to navigate challenges with support that encourages imagination and creativity. Erica works with women and gender-expansive individuals from adolescence through adulthood, with a focus on navigating identity, life transitions, neuro-functioning, caregiving, disability, and chronic stress. Her practice integrates relational, somatic, and creative approaches.

    Erica is a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) and holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She has additional training in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (a parenting approach), and autism-informed practices. She is also a Diabetes and Mental Health provider, complementing her lived experience as a type 1 diabetes caregiver.

  • Emily Feil, RCT-C

    Emily is a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate (RCT-C) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. She received her Master of Counselling degree from Gonzaga University. With a background in nursing, she has previously worked as a Registered Nurse in various areas of practice, where she gained valuable experience and insight into the highs and lows of what it means to be human. As a counsellor, Emily works primarily with individual adults, supporting clients through life’s various changes and challenges. Emily has received the foundational trainings in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), and draws primarily from this modality in her work. Emily views therapy as a space to explore, discover, and expand, embarking on an adventure that invites us to step more wholly into our lived experiences, know ourselves, and be known.
